Roadkill a boon for Recorders

Whilst it is very sad that animals are killed on our roads every year even in rural Herefordshire, they are a great source of records for mammals. Even common species such as brown rats, rabbits and deer are worth recording but recently we have had a record sent in of a Polecat, Mustela putorius. It can be tricky to tell them apart from ferret and the cross-bred polecat-ferret but our specimen from Llangarron shows a true polecat and evidence that in the borderlands the Polecat can still be found by those lucky enough to chance upon them (hopefully alive!).
