Ok so we dont mean members of the Apodiformes but Macroglossum stellatarum, the Hummingbird Hawk-moth. Due to the record high temperatures many residents in Herefordshire have seen this species feeding on Verbena in their garden and data from the BTO backs this up. In their Garden Birdwatch survey they found that 5.2% of gardens had a visitor compared to 1.3% in a typical year. The picture is provided by Charlet Overton from Weobley.
