Our highly skilled County Recorder Jo Weightman was called into action recently as a member of the public had called to her attention a rare fungi called Antrodia carbonica. A touch with Melzer’s iodine solution produces a black mark with this resupinate species and sure enough a rare species in the UK was a first for Herefordshire! It was growing at Wapley Woods near Shobdon and growing on a conifer stump and was confirmed at Kew as well.  Look out for those stumps folks!
