New moss discovered in the UK
4 March 2022
Ever wanted to discover something new to the country or indeed to science? The best way is to look at quite small things and a chance find in January 2021 did just that. Tom Ockley found a sample of what he thought was a wierd looking Barbula unguiculata but when he checked it was a tropical or sub-tropical moss called Bryoerthrophyllum campylocarpum (trying saying that after a few pints). It very rare in Europe but the site in Cardiganshire may not be the only one. Photo: Claire Halpin
