Hidden Herefordshire project concludes
20 September 2023
Sadly, the Heritage Lottery-funded Hidden Herefordshire project has now ended, having run from June 2021 to the end of August 2023. The project concluded spectacularly with a fantastic Festival of Wildlife held at Hellens Manor on the 13th August. This event was a huge success with lots of family-friendly activities, guided wildlife walks and opportunities to learn about Herefordshire’s natural heritage. Nearly 700 visitors attended and a huge number of species were recorded on the day – we’re still compiling all the records, final total to follow!
Hidden Herefordshire was a joint project run in partnership by Herefordshire Biological Records Centre (HBRC) and Cultivating Learning and Nature (CLaN) CIC. £98,900 was awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for us to connect Herefordshire people of all ages and from all backgrounds to recording wildlife, via free workshops, events and community engagement. During the project we have worked with over 4000 people (including 26 schools), run 65 natural history courses focusing on species identification, and recorded lots of wildlife including quite a few rare species and several county firsts.
