100th Bee species found in Herefordshire!
13 July 2023
Understanding of Herefordshire’s bee fauna is poor, but has recently begun to advance rapidly thanks to the Hidden Herefordshire project. Since the project-funded Bee course run by Liam Olds several interesting bee species have been found in the county, including Osmia bicolor which was seen on the BBC’s ‘Wild Isles‘ programme. This month, while visiting Hellens Manor, invertebrate enthusiast William Lambourne found the Four-banded Flower bee, Anthophora quadrimaculata which not only takes the county list to a grand 100, but is also as far as we know the first record of this species in Herefordshire!
